What this site is

An independent comparison of the guided day trips that run to the Gocta cataracts from Chachapoyas, plus the practical information a visitor needs before booking one. We are not a tour operator, a travel agency or a seller of travel. We hold no bookings, take no payments and have no staff in Peru.

Every booking happens on the operator's own platform under their terms. If something goes wrong with a trip, the operator and the platform are who you deal with, not us.

Where the tour data comes from

Prices, durations, inclusions, guide languages, pickup arrangements, age limits and cancellation terms are read directly off each operator's own listing and reproduced with the date they were read. Every tour page carries the same fields in the same order so the three trips can be compared line by line.

Where an itinerary time or an inclusion is quoted, it comes from the listing's own itinerary block. Operator marketing copy is not reproduced.

Where the trail and fee information comes from

Distances, elevation gain and walking times for the Cocachimba and San Pablo routes come from mapped trail data and recent first-hand hiking reports, compared against each other before a figure is published. Where sources disagree, this site prints a range rather than picking the most convenient number.

The entrance fee is the clearest example. Reports from 2025 and 2026 put a single-fall ticket anywhere between S/ 10 and S/ 20, because the Cocachimba and San Pablo community associations set and change their own prices. We publish that spread and tell you to carry more cash than the lowest figure, rather than quoting one number that may be wrong on the morning you arrive.

Height, tier measurements and the ranking dispute are checked against the published measurement announced in March 2006 and against waterfall databases that apply their own criteria. Climate figures are ten-year averages for Chachapoyas covering 2015 to 2024.

How traveller feedback is used

Normally this site weights recent, dated reviews from verified bookings. On this waterfall there are none: all three listings are new on the platform and carry no rating and no reviews.

Rather than borrow another product's reviews or quote anonymous forum praise, the comparison is built on what the operators themselves state — guide language, inclusions, timings — and on independent trail reporting. Where this site says something cannot be judged yet, that is a finding, not an omission.

What we cannot verify

We cannot confirm that a given guide will speak English on your date, only that the operator states it. We cannot confirm the ticket price you will be charged in the village on the day. We cannot confirm horse availability, which depends on who is standing in the square when your group arrives.

We also cannot verify weather-dependent claims: cloud cover routinely hides the upper tier in the wet months, and no operator controls that.

How affiliate links affect this

We earn a commission when a booking is made through a link here, at no extra cost to the reader. Commission does not decide order, wording or recommendation.
